The oven heats up too much from below, what can be done about it?
Have you been noticing lately that your dishes are burnt underneath or undercooked on top? Are you trying to change the program but that doesn’t solve the problem? With this guide, you can find out why your oven is heating up too much from below.
WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
WARNING
Before carrying out any work on your appliance, make sure you properly disconnect it from the mains electricity supply.
There is a risk of an electric shock.
Wear suitable protective gloves if you need to dismantle anything.
There is a risk of cutting yourself.
The dish is badly positioned
Depending on what you plan to cook, you must respect where to position it in the oven. If you place your dish close to the lower heating element of the oven, it may overcook from the bottom and not enough from the top, too close to the top and it may burn. Each appliance is different, refer to the instructions for your household appliance in order to place the dishes at the right height.
The upper resistor is damaged
The resistors of your oven, when they work at the same time, ensure a heating balance. If the upper coil cuts out, then the lower coil will compensate for the lack of heat by heating harder. To find out if the heating element at the top of your oven is faulty, you need to test it. Take a multimeter and set it to the 200 ohm position. Place the fingertips on each terminal and then read the value. A heating coil at the top of the oven should measure between 20 ohms and 60 ohms, above or below this amount suggests an abnormality.
The circuit board is defective
The circuit board is the component that allows your device to function properly. It connects several electronic parts together. If it is faulty and it is constantly feeding the heating coil at the bottom, it may burn your dishes. This part cannot be tested. Before replacing it, make sure that your entire oven is working properly. If all the elements are working properly, it is definitely damaged.
