My steamer is tripping the circuit breaker, what should I check?
Imagine you’re settling in for an ironing session while tuning into your favorite TV show. Suddenly, you’re in the dark—your iron has tripped the breaker and the TV’s gone silent! What’s the fix? This guide will help you troubleshoot the issue and get back to your TV series in no time.
WHATS THE PROBLEM?
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.
There is a risk of electric shock.
Wear suitable protective gloves if you need to dismantle anything.
There is a risk of getting cut or injured.
A malfunction of the electrical outlet
First of all, check the wall socket where the steam generator is plugged. To do this, connect another device, such as a lamp, to check if the same thing happens. Then, plug your ironing device into another wall outlet. If the circuit breaker trips again, it indicates that the appliance is at fault. Alternatively, if it is a socket malfunction, replace it or call an electrician.
A leak creates a short circuit
As you probably know, water and electricity don’t mix. In the presence of a leak on one of the electrical elements of your iron or steamer will automatically go into safety mode by cutting off the power supply. It will then be necessary to disassemble the device in order to locate the leak and to repair it if possible. To do this, use our related video. If this isn’t the fix you need, keep reading.
The power cord is damaged
Now, carefully inspect the power cord of your steamer. This element must not have any anomalies that could cause disconnection (frayed wire, severed cable, melted plug, etc.). Sometimes it’s the invisible electrical wire inside the sheath that is damaged. In this situation, it will be necessary to test the continuity of the electrical cord. Replacing the damaged cable on your ironing appliance should resolve the failure.
A failure of the boiler resistor
