Your pastry is ready to bake and you can't wait to taste it? But when you turn on your oven, it switches into safe mode and you do not understand why. We're going to help you solve this mystery with this diagnostic aid.

POTENTIAL CAUSES OF THIS FAULT:

WARNING
Before carrying out any work on your appliance, be absolutely sure that you first completely disconnect it from the mains electricity supply.
Risk of electric shock.

Wear protective gloves if you need to disassemble the appliance.
Risk of cuts and abrasions.

Improper installation of the oven

Improper installation of the oven When installing a built-in oven in a kitchen cabinet, it is important to follow the manufacturer's installation instructions for the appliance. In order to provide proper ventilation for the oven, care must be taken to maintain a minimum space between the bottom of the appliance and the kitchen wall. Otherwise, overheating could cause the cooking appliance to trip.

Good to know
When installing an oven in a tall oven cabinet, a space of at least 5 cm should be left clear at the back of the oven for ventilation.

A power outage

A power outage Sometimes, after incorrect use or after a power outage while the oven is in full operation (especially during pyrolysis), the oven may be switched to safe mode.Depending on the model, holding down the the start button may remedy the problem. Otherwise, please refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the correct operation of your device.

The child lock has been activated by mistake

The child lock has been activated by mistake Most ovens are now equipped with a childproof lock function When operating the control buttons on your device, you may have unintentionally activated this lock. The action to be taken to disable the child lock mode varies from one oven model to the next Please refer to the manual for your appliance.

The oven went into safe mode following a pyrolytic cycle

The oven went into safe mode following a pyrolytic cycleSometimes, the rise in temperature of the oven associated with cleaning by pyrolysis can trigger the safety shutdown of the cooking appliance. In this case, the top or rear panel of the oven will have to be removed in order to reset the safety klixon by pressing the small red button. You can also attempt to turn off the appliance's circuit breaker at the switchboard for 10 minutes and then turn it on again: this is sometimes enough to resolve the situation.

The safety thermostat is defective

The safety thermostat is defective The safety thermostat, also called a klixon, is a safety device that prevents your oven from overheating. If this has been triggered, the oven will not heat up. Safety thermostats can sometimes be tripped/activated due to a faulty cooling fan or temperature sensor, or as a result of a fault with the thermostat itself. Some can be reset by pressing a button located on the top of the thermostat. The thermostat can also be checked and tested using a multimeter in ohmmeter mode. Simply place the meter's two probes on the thermostat's terminals. It should show continuity. If it doesn't, you will need to replace it. Caution, this component remains live even if the oven is inactive: it is therefore imperative that you unplug your oven in order to test it. If it is faulty, it will be triggered when the oven temperature exceeds a certain value.

The cooling fan is damaged

The cooling fan is damaged The cooling fan is usually located on the top of your oven. If your oven shuts down after a certain period of time, this may indicate that the fan unit is no longer performing its function properly. Also, when the temperature reaches a certain level, the oven switches off as a safety feature. In this case, this part will have to be replaced.

The sensor is faulty

The sensor is faulty This sensor, also known as a heating sensor, is found in electric ovens : it informs the circuit board that the desired temperature has been reached (or that it has not). If the temperature sensor is faulty, it can send inconsistent electrical signals to the main circuit board, and therefore to the various other components in the oven. Excessive heat may then be generated and cause the unit to trip. This part is usually located at the back, to the top right of the appliance. You can check the condition of the sensor with a multimeter set to the Ohmmeter position (more details regarding temperature sensor testing can be found in our article below).

A fault in the circuit board

A fault in the circuit board The main circuit board, also referred to as the control board or electronics module, allows you to manage all the functions of your oven (fan motor, resistor...). It is possible that one of the electronic components in this spare part is faulty and may cause overheating, which could in turn cause the appliance to trip.
