The oven no longer heats properly from above, faulty resistor?
Your oven no longer heats properly from above? Don’t give up on your favourite grilled food. This malfunction can be easily repaired. To do this, consult this troubleshooting guide. We will help you check the parts that may be defective.
THE POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR THIS FAILURE:
-
Defect of the top heating element
-
Defective wiring
-
Thermostat or temperature sensor malfunction
-
Electronic card problem
WARNING
Before carrying out any work on your appliance,
make sure you properly disconnect it from the mains electricity supply.
There is a risk of an electric shock.
The top heating element
The top heating element is the heating element of the upper part of the oven. It usually has a value between 20 and 40 Ohms. Sometimes it cuts itself off. In this case, the food will only be cooked on the lower part, in a traditional cooking program, such as the fan and bottom of the oven. Similarly, you will no longer be able to use the grill function of your oven because it only uses this part. Test the relevant resistance of this part using a multimeter. If you can’t find a value, it’s likely that you’ll have to replace it.
Defective wiring
For proper operation when programming your oven, all elements must communicate with each other. The elements are connected to each other by electrical cables. Over time, cables can be damaged, cut or disconnected. This will have the effect of cutting off all communications. Check (on the unplugged device) that all cables and elements are securely connected to each other and that everything is tight enough. If not, redo the wiring or replace the connectors.
A malfunction of the thermostat or probe
The thermostat or the temperature sensor are the names of the spare parts for regulating the selected temperature of the oven, typically by using the program selector of the machine. Depending on your oven model, you will find one or the other installed. If this gives incorrect information to the electric board or the element is cut, the oven may not heat up.

Electronic card problem
The electronic card or control board is the brain of your household appliance. It distributes the tension in your oven. It is often an expensive component, so all other possible causes of failure must be eliminated before checking if this is the problem. If all previous checks have not revealed the cause of the failure, it is likely that the power card is defective.
