The light in the refrigerator still on and won't turn off
Anything is possible in the freezing world of refrigerators! Normally, you open the door and the inside lights up. You close it, and it's night time for your food... But sometimes the light bulb stays on all the time even when the door is closed. What's going on?
It’s very easy to see whether the light stays on or not. Does your mobile phone or camera have a video function? Start recording and place the phone inside the refrigerator for a few moments with the door closed and you'll soon get a "visual" on the situation.
WARNING
Before carrying out any work on your appliance, make sure you properly disconnect it from the mains electricity supply.
There is a risk of an electric shock.
THE POTENTIAL CAUSES FOR THIS FAULT:
-
The switch or micro-switch is broken
-
The door now opens in a different direction
-
The hinges are broken or bent
THE SWITCH OR MICRO-SWITCH IS BROKEN
Does your door closure system have a mechanical switch ? See where it is located, and check if it's working and the effect on the light by pressing it. If it doesn't change anything and the light stays on, there's a chance that this switch is defective or broken and you'll need to replace it. If your door closure system is called an ILS or Reed switch, i.e.magnetic, it probably has a small glass light where two strips come into contact or separate based on the magnetic field induced by the magnet on the side of the door. It may be defective or broken, but it can be changed. But very often an ILS is welded onto an electronic circuit board and the whole thing will have to be replaced.
On No Frost ventilated appliances appliances when the switch is faulty, the refrigerator part won't work because this element will consider the door to be open at all times.

THE DOOR NOW OPENS IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION
For practical reasons, the direction in which a refrigerator door opens can be changed. If the device is well designed, it will work in both positions. But this may not be the case, especially if the switch is magnetic , the door may contain only one magnet, not two to correspond to the two possible positions. In the event of a change, there will no longer be a magnet in front of the switch concealed behind the panel (or near the thermostat) and the light will no longer turn off. The magnet will have to be replaced or added.
THE HINGES ARE BROKEN OR BENT
Hinges may also get damaged over time. So it could just be that one or more of the hinges got bent. Sometimes the hinges on the bottom of the door break. Here, the magnet and/or moulding that must make contact is/are no longer aligned with the sensors. Most of the time, the two problems above are caused by doors opening/closing and the weight of the food in the fridge. In both cases, hinges will have to be replaced.
