The kettle no longer turns on, what should I check?
The kettle is a small appliance that comes in handy for heating water quickly. To do this, it is equipped with a heating element capable of bringing the water to high temperatures quickly. However, regular maintenance of your device is essential to make it last and avoid malfunction of its parts. If the kettle does not turn on, we advise you to check the following working parts in order:
WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.
There is a risk of electric shock.
Control the power source
Before any further checks, make sure the kettle is fully powered. This can be done by testing the affected wall outlet by plugging in another device. Does this device work? Then the issue is with the kettle. Also check your electrical panel as the circuit breaker may have been tripped. If the kettle turns the electrical panel off again you can try replacing the fuse inside it’s plug.
The power cord is faulty
The next step is to visually check the power cord. If you find that the wire is cut or melted, it will be necessary to replace the electrical cable. Most of the time, you will be forced to change the base + cord assembly.

The power base is no longer functional
The power base of a kettle is the part on which the appliance rests. It is used to supply the device with electricity. Test this element using a multimeter set to ohmmeter mode. Place one tip of the tester on one of the metal tips on the power plug and the other tip on the connector in the center of the base. The display of OL or 1 indicates a malfunction of this connector. It will then be necessary to replace the kettle’s power base.

The on/off switch is no longer working
The on/off button on your kettle is positioned either at the top on the handle or at the bottom of the kettle. To check its condition, it is necessary to disassemble it. If the switch is located on the handle, use a slotted screwdriver to unclip the plastic shell that protects it. You will need to disassemble the bottom part of the kettle if the component is at the bottom of the device. Next, check that the button is in good condition and that its connectors are operational. Finally, also check that the thermostat is properly connected. For a model with a switch in the lower part, it will be enough to control the thermostat/switch block. If you notice an anomaly, this working part will need to be replaced.
