The grill or electric barbecue no longer heats, how to repair?
You have planned a barbecue tonight with your friends but your cooking appliance is no longer heating. To avoid eating raw food, consult this troubleshooting guide which details the possible origins of this dysfunction.
THE POTENTIAL CAUSES FOR THIS FAULT:
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.
There is a risk of electric shock.
Wear suitable protective gloves if you need to dismantle anything.
There is a risk of getting cut or injured.
The resistor is defective
The resistor or coil is the essential part of your grill used to heat the plate of the grill or electric barbecue. This heating element generates heat only when it is crossed by electric current. It is logically the first element to check. Perform a continuity test to see if an electrical current passes through the component. To do this, set a multimeter to the Ohmmeter position and place its tips either side of the resistor on its lug nuts. Its value must be between 20 and 60 Ohms. If your tester displays OL or 1, this indicates that the electric flow of the resistor is cut (not passing) and that its replacement is necessary.
An electrical wire is damaged
By dint of handling your nomadic barbecue, getting it out every year when the sun is shining, an electric wire may be damaged. It can be disconnected or even severed which will prevent the proper functioning of your device. Visually check the wiring of your grill and then reconnect or replace the electrical wire.
Thermostat malfunction
The thermostat of a grill cooking appliance is the element that allows the selecting of the heating level. Check this component by doing a continuity test using your multimeter. Set your tester to the continuity position. Go to the thermostat and remove the lug nuts. Then, place the tips on each terminal of this component. The thermostat is functional if the multimeter displays 0 or beeps. Otherwise, it will have to be replaced.
If your grill has a thermostatic probe, you will not be able to test it and you will be forced to replace the power supply/thermostat.
