The Dyson broom vacuum cleaner no longer recharges, what to do?
Your Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner or cordless hoover does not start anymore. Or does it have little autonomy and cut off quickly when it feels like it? The battery may be the cause, but before considering a replacement, check some other elements to understand why your Dyson is no longer charging.
THE POTENTIAL CAUSES FOR THIS PROBLEM:
WARNING
Before carrying out any work on your appliance, make sure you properly disconnect it from the mains electricity supply
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK
The electrical installation is faulty
First, check the wall outlet that your vacuum cleaner’s charger is plugged into. To find check it, plug another electrical device into the same outlet. If the latter does not work, it is very likely that the current will no longer flow through your electrical equipment. Before considering working on it, check that the circuit breaker has not been engaged. It will either involve replacing the fuse that would have jumped on the circuit breaker or involve an electrician to change the wall outlet if it is damaged.
The Dyson charger is defective
The charger of a cordless vacuum cleaner is quite difficult to control. However, if the battery indicator light remains off, it indicates a probable problem with the charger; in that, it no longer powers the Dyson battery. Check the connector to make sure it is not deformed, twisted, or damaged. Similarly, inspect its electrical cable for any anomaly (e.g. a damaged, faded or severed cable). If this is the case, replacing the charger will make your vacuum cleaner work again.

The battery is defective
A battery at the end of its life is often the cause of a non-charging cordless vacuum cleaner. Most often, this malfunction is due to poor loading practices. It should be noted that during the first use, it is important that the first charges are at least 12 hours (without interruption) and that discharges (using all the power) are complete. If the battery is recharged too frequently without it being necessary, it will help reduce its lifespan. Only recharge the battery when it is really necessary. Therefore, it is not recommended to leave the device permanently on its charging base.
Here are some tips that will allow you to extend the life of your Dyson battery:
- Limit the use of your cordless vacuum cleaner on maximum power (Max and Boost modes) to targeted deeper cleanings. By favouring the Auto or Normal mode for daily cleaning, you will help preserve its battery,
- The battery does not like high heat which helps to accelerate its aging. In case of a heatwave, use your device for short periods, avoiding the hottest hours,
- Likewise, do not store your vacuum cleaner near a heat source such as a radiator, a hot water tank, or in a location exposed to the sun. The recommended storage temperature is between 18 °C and 28 °C.
