My dishwasher door no longer fits and threatens to fall
For some time now, the door of your dishwasher no longer holds in the closed position. It even threatens to fall on your feet! Don’t wait for an accident to occur before acting ... After checking the following parts you will locate the origin of the breakdown to repair your household appliance:
THE POTENTIAL CAUSES FOR THIS FAILURE:
-
Loose or broken door cable
-
Defective door spring
-
Damaged dishwasher chassis
-
Door hinge is out of service
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.
There is a risk of electric shock.
Use suitable gloves if you are taking it apart.
There is a risk of getting cut.
The door cable is loose or broken
One of the dishwasher door cables is broken. In this case, it will no longer be able to carry out its role of holding the door in place. This part will have to be replaced quickly to prevent the door from falling on your feet! They are usually sold in pairs. We advise to replace the 2 door cables at the same time.
Sometimes the cable is simply loose. You can try to tighten it by placing it on a top hook. Unfortunately, if it is already in use, you will have no other solution than to change the brake cables of the door.
One or both door springs are defective
The door springs of a dishwasher are used to control the opening force of the door. They connect the two hinges of the door to the frame of this household appliance through an anchor hook. If they are broken or relaxed, they will no longer be able to fulfil their mission. If they are intact but you notice a tension defect, you can tighten them by positioning the anchor hook a notch higher. On the other hand, if they are broken or cannot be tightened it will be necessary to replace them.

The dishwasher frame is damaged
The door frame of a dishwasher serves as a connection between the door and the body of the appliance. If it is twisted, this door and device relationship will no longer be optimal. This happens, for example, when transporting the dishwasher, or if you let a heavy object fall on the door in its open position. Try straightening the frame or replace it if this is not possible.
One or more door hinges are worn
The door hinges of a dishwasher work hard during the repeated opening and closing of your appliance. Over time, these elements will wear out. First of all, check that they are well positioned in relation to the inside: an opening angle equal to 90 ° must be respected (with the door perpendicular to the frame of the dishwasher). If you notice that the door is going down too low, it indicates that the hinges are at the end of their life and it will be necessary to change them.
