The dishwasher no longer fills with water
Water is not arriving in the dishwasher … Your device is full of dirty dishes but when you start it, you don't hear it fill with water. A dry cleaning of your dishes will not do much! In order to understand why your dishwasher does not fill with water, follow the advice in this troubleshooting guide.
THE POTENTIAL CAUSES FOR THIS FAILURE:
-
Non-compliant installation
-
Defective Aquastop
-
Faulty door lock
-
Solenoid valve malfunction
-
Faulty flow meter
-
Blocked compression chamber
-
Defective water presence sensor
-
Non-functional pressure switch
-
Clogged heat exchanger
-
Damaged wires
-
The power board is faulty
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.
There is a risk of electric shock.
Use suitable gloves if you are taking it apart.
There is a risk of getting cut.
Installation is not compliant
First, before considering any disassembly, check that the device is correctly installed. Check that the water inlet valve is properly opened and that the drain pipe is not driven more than 15 cm into the drain, so as to block siphoning. Also inspect the water inlet pipe. It should not be bent, pinched or crushed.

The Aquastop is defective
The Aquastop is a safety integrated into the water inlet hose. It is a pneumatic mechanism that is used to stop the arrival of water in emergency to avoid any overflow. If it is defective, the Aquastop will block water entry permanently. This element is often composed of a solenoid valve that can sometimes cut or block mechanically. The solenoid valve is controlled with a multimeter in the ohmmeter position and its value is often between 2 k and 4 k Ohm. If the latter is defective, you will have no choice but to replace the Aquastop. Be careful, as you would for a conventional water supply pipe, check first of all that the Aquastop is not bent, pinched or crushed and that the tap is open!

The door lock is defective
The door lock is an element that allows your device to keep the door closed during operation. It consists of a mechanism with a removable hook and a microswitch. If the microswitch is defective or broken, the dishwasher will consider the door to be open and refuse to start and take in water. In this case, it will be necessary to change the complete lock according to what model you own. Similarly, in the event of a broken hook, the complete lock will need to be replaced.
Solenoid valve malfunction
The solenoid valve is an electromagnetic valve controlling the distribution of water in the device. If the needle is blocked, the coil is cut off, or the solenoid valve filter is clogged, then the appliance will not be able to fill with water. If the filter is clogged, a simple cleaning will be enough to restart the device. In other cases, the solenoid valve will need to be replaced.

The flowmeter is failing
The flow meter is an element usually integrated into the water distributor that is located on one side of the dishwasher. It is used to control the flow of water entering the device. If this element malfunctions, the device will not fill up and you will need to buy a new one.
The compression chamber is blocked
The compression chamber allows the control of the water level. It is connected to the pressure switch through a small hose and is located on the dishwasher bowl. Over time, washing at low temperatures or sometimes with excess detergent, impurities can accumulate and clog it. The dishwasher will think there is still water left in the machine and will continue to drain, which will block the filling of the appliance. It will then be necessary to clean this chamber by injecting very hot water through the pressure switch pipe using a syringe.
The water presence sensor is defective
The water presence sensor or optical sensor is used in some dishwashers to replace the pressure switch. It performs the same functions. It is located in the dishwasher bowl under the filters. If the latter is clogged or defective, it will no longer be able to recognize water levels in the device and it will prevent the dishwasher from filling. Before attempting to replace it, if your device is equipped, clean it with a damp sponge. If the problem persists, it will probably need to be replaced.
The pressure switch no longer works
The pressure switch is used to detect the water level. It is connected by a small pipe to the compression chamber. It is often composed of 3 levels. A low level to indicate that the device is empty, a high level to indicate that the device is full, and an overflow level to secure the device when it is continuously filling, or to signal a problem with water level detection. If the pressure switch is defective, it may not detect low or high levels and put your device into fault mode. When your pressure switch is of the ‘mechanical pressure switch’ type, you can test it by blowing into it. If it is functional, you will hear a slight banging noise as you blow air into it.
The heat exchanger is blocked
The heat exchanger or water distributor is a tank that is located on the side of the device. If the latter is clogged with limescale or grease, the dishwasher will not be able to fill, because the water before arriving in the tank must pass through this distributor and the resins of the salt pot.
The wires are damaged
The wires on your device are the connecting element of your machine. They allow communication between different elements by sending electrical voltage through the components of your device. If it is defective due to a cut wire or a disconnected connector, the connection with the element in question will be cut. If this connection concerns the filling function, your device will not be able to fill with water. It will then be necessary either to simply reconnect the cable concerned or repair it. The wiring located at the door hinges is particularly a concern because it is used by the many manipulations of the door. We advise you to start by checking that these electrical wires are not cut.
The power board is faulty
The power card or board is the element that manages the proper functioning of the device. It is also the last element to be checked because its replacement is often expensive. Also, only when all the previous elements have been thoroughly checked, it sometimes happens that the board needs to be replaced because it no longer sends the correct voltage to an element or no longer receives the information received from a spare part.
