The gas hob no longer lights up, what should I do?
Don’t hear the usual hissing sound when you go to turn on one of the burners on your gas hob? An electrical failure is often responsible for gas cooktops not igniting. Let’s check several elements together that could cause this outage.
WHAT’S THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM?
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.

Check the power outlet
When a device is broken and doesn’t turn on at all, the first thing to do is to check its power supply. To do this, get a multimeter tester and follow the instructions in our video above or, if you prefer, the tutorial below. If you don’t have a tester, try plugging other electrical equipment into the outlet to see if it’s functional.
Check the correct power supply of the terminal block
If your gas hob no longer lights, it’s possible that the terminal block connecting the cooking appliance to the electrical circuit is defective. To be sure, check this with a multimeter using the video above that explains how to do it on an oven. The procedure will be the same for a cooktop.
The circuit board is defective
Some models of high-end gas cooktops are equipped with an electronic board. For example, if it is a mixed hob with burners alongside an induction or glass-ceramic hob. Sometimes, a small control module is used to electronically ignite the burner. If the previous checks did not allow you to find the electrical fault, you may need to investigate the possibility of a failure of this electronic board.
