Your Air Conditioner Is Not Working Anymore
Air-conditioners enable you to control and regulate the temperature in a room. They usually tend to be reliable and work well. However, they can sometimes develop faults. These usually occur during periods of hot weather, which is when the unit is most needed.
THE POTENTIAL CAUSES FOR THIS FAULT :
-
The air-conditioner is set incorrectly
-
There is dust in the air conditioner
-
The exhaust duct is obstructed
-
The drain tank is full
-
A fault on the compressor
-
A leak on the cooling circuit
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.
There is a risk of electric shock.
Wear suitable protective gloves if you need to dismantle anything.
There is a risk of getting cut or injured.
The air-conditioner is set incorrectly
It's possible that your appliance is simply set incorrectly. Check what temperature it's set at before looking for a more serious problem. We also recommend checking the other settings on your air-conditioner. Refer to your user's manual to help with this. If the appliance is only blowing a little air out and therefore not producing any cold, this can sometimes be a sign that the wrong settings have been selected.
Your appliance may be in night-time mode or on silent, which will reduce the power of its air-conditioning effect.
There is dust in the air conditioner
Over time, dust can build up inside the appliance, a bit like it does in a computer. It's important to understand that the air repeatedly circulates and therefore carries dust with it, which will get trapped in your appliance's filter. This will end up creating a blockage that will prevent the air from circulating properly. The cooling cycle will of course not work effectively under these circumstances. This is the reason why it's essential to clean the filter regularly.
On models that have an outside unit, it's also recommended that you thoroughly clean the condenser in summer using a spray designed specifically for the task. This should prevent dust and dirt building up.
The exhaust duct is obstructed
On portable air-conditioners, the exhaust duct can sometimes be badly positioned or its external end blocked.
Reminder: the exhaust hose must be as straight as possible (no sharp bends). The diameter of the hose must also not be narrowed or excessively widened. And finally, the external air outlet valve must not be blocked or jammed in any way.
Purchase an exhaust duct for an air conditioner
The drain tank is full
Some portable air-conditioners are fitted with a drain tank that collects the defrost water.
A fault on the compressor
The compressor is the motor that drives the air-conditioner. It serves to compress the coolant in the sealed cooling circuit on the appliance, causing its pressure to increase and, as a consequence, its temperature to rise. As it becomes compressed, the coolant absorbs energy available in the air in the form of heat. If the compressor fails to carry out this task, this will have an impact on a major and key part of the entire system. If the coolant is heated on the one hand, it must also be cooled on the other (and vice versa).
A leak on the cooling circuit
The cooling circuit within which the coolant circulates is hermetically sealed. If a nut comes loose or a soldered joint fails, the performance of the air conditioner will increasingly begin to deteriorate. If this happens, you'll need to get it repaired by a specialist.
